Without proper ventilation and drainage, moisture can accumulate between the water-resistive barrier and siding of a building. A rainscreen separates the cladding from the building, allowing drainage and moisture evaporation.
Stucco and stone claddings require specialized moisture control. Absorptive claddings increase the risk of solar-driven moisture, which puts wood substrates at high risk of water damage. A properly installed rainscreen allows for separation and drainage to dry out these problem areas.
